Take me home take me home

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- U.S. politicians are already protesting Belgian brewer InBev's unsolicited $46 billion bid to buy Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. and absorb the iconic brewery to create the world's fourth largest consumer products company. But it appears lawmakers have little leverage to stop the deal, which might ultimately be approved on antitrust grounds.

"It's going to cause a lot of the angst and hand wringing," said Douglas Cogen, a mergers and acquisitions attorney with the Fenwick & West law firm in San Francisco. "In the end, there isn't a lot of regulatory clearance that this deal needs."

There are signs Anheuser-Busch is trying to thwart the deal. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday the brewer has begun preliminary talks with Mexico's Grupo Modelo SAB about a possible merger. The paper cited anonymous sources who said Anheuser-Busch approached Carlos Fernandez, chief executive of Modelo and an Anheuser-Busch director, about a deal in recent weeks.

Re Bud...1) I know Im racist bc Europeans buying Bud just doesnt bother me. If it were the Japanese or some middle eastern group...You know what? Nevermind. That would never happen. I dont even think people from the Middle East can even drink. 2) So what? I mean whats the worst that happens? Bud starts tasting good? 3) You know you're fucked when youre making desperate phone calls to the Mexicans for help 4) Recent articles in the WSJ have painted a pretty fucked up picture of the Busch family. The current CEO killed a girl in his car when he was in college. Charges against him were later dismissed. His sister was quoted as calling it a "learning experience." I hate rich people.

Yes, I think basically Italy has to beat France to advance. When's the game?

even if Italy wins, they still might not go- Holland has clinched the first spot, so they'll probably rest some of their players, which will give Rumania a much better chance at the victory and a trip to the final 8 in the #2 two spot, which would leave France and Italy out no matter what happens in that game.

what, no Tim Russert love?

I was stunned to hear the news. I watched Meet the Press a lot and thought Russert's show was solid most weeks. The whole hug your dad bit was a little corny. I find public lessons about very personal things- how you should feel about your parents- odd and frankly out of line.

If we let Romania win those sorry losers of Italy and France will go home. Stop crying. They should have played better. Italy is not a team. Too many star players. France in my opinion deserves to go through more than those blue divers.

hostile crowd! it's comforting to know that italy will still be the best team in the world until at least the summer of 2010.

that being said, i am rooting for holland in game 3. i will wear orange.

buffon for il duce!
