Ruling is out although it is not clear who won. Early read is that essentially CAL can go ahead with its plans, HOWEVER, first they have to make some changes to the planned center's design plans and address some concerns re the environmental impact report the university provided. Newscast on KRON TV at 8 should HOPEFULLY clarify. Fingers crossed.
Some more chatter re the Cal thing...Basically Cal has to go back to the judge and prove that its proposed athletic facility is of sufficent value relative to the main stadium that the facility would constitute a separate structure than the stadium. This is important bc you can not build or add on to an existing structure (the stadium) which is on a fault line. Even more detail...the lawyers are arguing over which measure of valuation ought to be used to measure the stadium's worth.
Long story short we should have a final ruling by end of fall latest and 2 weeks earliest depending on how long Cal takes to present its case. Most people's take is that its about 70% certain that the facility gets built and construction begins in the spring of 2009.
Cal can yank down the hippies and trees now. The temporary injunction doesnt affect that!
And before you post, Ken...this all matters bc if CAL is going to have a chance of being a permanent big time college football program it needs to ahve facilities which reflect that. Failure to do so means you dont get top recruits and your coach leaves.
