I can not believe the balls on this guy. First the Palin pick, then the suspension of the campaign and threatening to not go to the debate Friday. I mean, fuck me. This guy will absolutely do anything to change the atmosphere when things are not working in his favor. Palin now this. AMAZING!
When I heard what McCain said, my first thought was Obama should go along with it. To be blunt, the American people have in the past demonstrated how easily duped they can be. See Palin. As a result, I thought Obama should agree to the cancellation bc the American people are too dumb to recognize this as anything other than a stunt from a desperate campaign.
He is amazing. Think about it this way. He has no clearly put the fate of his campaign in direct opposition of what was being interpeted as a relatively smooth and inevitable passing of the bailout. In other words his hopes lie WITH turbulence, anxiety, and brinksmanship in what is the most brazen way.
I'm poring back in memory, over all the touchstones of McCain's recent public life, and it's all starting to make sense: his "stands" on tobacco litigation, campaign finance, immigration, taxes, even (briefly) torture. All ultimately about a self-dramatist creating a drama at which he is the center.
All failed efforts, but one now sees that success or failure - or principle - was not at all the point, ever. Who cares about those things when you get to be at the center of a great drama?
So now, as with canceling the first night of his own convention (over a storm, incidentally, that inconvenienced no one), he is lurching from one dramatic centerpiece to the next, trying to upset the metrics of this election, trying to recapture that old magic. In a moment when calm is called for, he sets his hair afire.
Wouldn't it be smarter to leave Obama to an empty stage? He' still reeling from "the fundamentals of the economy are sound" and needs to look engaged? OK, stunt...
Did you see Palin? Does it get any more embarrassing?
And shouldn't this bailout include a provision that requires future profits above a certain percentage to be handed out in public squares with kegs and mariachi bands? But I guess profits are private and losses are socialized. The private accounts of some of these folks should be raided.
right now everyone on cnbc is crying about warrannts the govt will get in banks that get bailed out. This will crush the share price of many financial stocks as it dilutes their equity due to a larger shareholder base.
The whining is outrageous. Essentially they are complaining that Mainstreet which is bailing out Wall Street to the tune of $700b get something for their efforts. Nevermind salaries and bonuses on Wall Street act $400k, while Mainstreet has seen it's income DECLINE.
really, if you haven't watched the whole Couric interview, get a jaw supporter- scroll down to find her amazing defense of the Alaska/Russia foreign policy connection

Time will tell I guess.
He cares more about the country than his campaign, cynic.
Embrace the maverick and all his heartfelt, selfless love of country.
You should be ashamed.

It's stunning.
Tony, stop visiting old friends all over the country every weekend so we can go to The Trappist again on a Sunday afternoon. It's just sitting there.
It needs a fucking visit!

conventional wisdom is that McDrama will show up on Friday and tje market is falling on a wide spread belief that a bailout agreeement is near.
Doesn't this make what McCain did look even more like an empty stunt?
