Question man asks....

Is it just me or has the Obama administration had a crappy summer? I just feel like the health care debate is being taken away from them and Obama is not fighting back hard enough. I also feel that that all the stimulus money is going unaccounted for and unexplained. Why doesn't the administration have an update every week or month regarding what has been accomplished, how many people have been hired, how our return on investment is going, what's expected next week, month, by end of year? And what is out strategy in Afghanistan? When will we know we can leave? How long do we think that that will be?

Does it seem like we are way behind in good records this year? I count The Black Lips (not their best), The Strange Boys (not as good Black Lips), Hunches (solid) and Black Time as the only standout releases. Am I missing something? Can anyone recommend anything else?

I've been offered a Fender Twin reverb for $500. Should I do it? I don't know where to put it.

First, sorry for the snippy response to the band question- bad day, very bad day

I don't have the time to respond to the Obama questions, but I too haven't found very many lps that I like this year, and my favorites are all from old guys: Dinosaur Jr., Dexter Romweber, and Jack O. The new Jay Reatard is Ok, but I'm not crazy about the new direction. It's very similar to the singles comp on Matador. I haven't bought many records from the kids this year, though, so I'm probably missing some good stuff. The new Reigning Sound is out now, but I haven't heard it. The Black Lips underwhelmed. Strange Boys are OK. Haven't heard the new Black Time, but I've been less enamored with each release, but I haven't kept up with all of them. Verdict: I am old and getting older.

In other news, went to Water World in Concord yesterday- truly amazing people-watching, and water slides are a blast. Everyone walks around in bikinis. Everyone has multiple bad tattoos. Teenagers make out in line. My back hurts. In a good way. Hilarious. And fun.

Have you bought a house?

I forgot about the jack-O record. Probably my fave release of the year!

There's no nice way to say it, so I'll just say it: Waterparks, amusement parks and sporting events often remind me what a upper middle class white guy I am. All that tattoos, fat parents, and ill behaved children leave me cold. "The people" have always worked better for me as a concept than in the flesh. And boy are they fleshy in America.

We start the house hunting process after labor day. August is all about IVF.

Just to clarify regarding people at Waterparks, etc....in no way was I trying to insinuate that I don't appreciate trashy girls in bikinis. In no way whatsoever.
