Tom Jones, can you explain how Junior is playing in this video? I seems like he is playing the E string continuously with his thumb and licks with his fingers? Is that what gives his music that droning sound?

vid's blocked at work, but yeah, you described it correctly

listened to Junior all the way home from Roseville recently, and then again for a marathon ping pong match. His music is so sad and yet weirdly comforting.

Some one described it as a sort of precursor to John Lee Hooker. And that droning sound is common to both. Its just so hypnotic. For some reason I always think of someone BBQing a goat or pig for like 8 hours whenever I hear Junior play.

Whats new in Roseville?

Hey Mr. hall how about some record recomendations from you? And not just p-rock/garage stuff. What are you listening to?

For me its still Black Diamond Heavies, Bass Drum of Death, Junior and George Jones.

Wow, first time through the Apache Dropout lp and it was really good. Not sure why, but for some reason it reminded me a bit of early Pavement stuff. And the sticker on the cover had a blurb, which mentioned Lou Reed. I guess I can hear that, too.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sonny. Next up: Jim Jones review and Painkillers.

yea, it's hard to categorize, which Jim Jones is not- I'll be curious to hear what you think of that one
