A star is born pt II

I submit to you jaded hipster....J Reatard is to the the 2000s what J Mascis was to the late 1980s. In fact, in this humble reporter's opinion J's superstar appeal is perhaps only eclipsed by Tim Lincecum. These are your heroes today.

Pt I was TL's Sports Illustrated cover.

while I struggle to imagine Mascis punching a stage dancer in the face or writing songs about watching his girlfriend turn blue or writing highly intoxicated hate missives on message boards in which he rips his fans to shred, I will say they both have terrible hair and write great songs. Pick up his new singles collection on IntheRed- it's terrific.

I know you don't like Cheap Time (I think their record is excellent, shockingly), but how were they. More details, please, and I'll regale you with tales of last night's family reunion.

Both Brad and I agreed Cheap Time sucked. The guys voice is simply intollerable. Their sound is kinda like a lot less charming Dickies in that respect. Interestinly, I think I might actually like this band if they just had a normal sounding vocalist.

Also, we heard that Budget Rock is ON. We are dialed ito the scene, man.

yea, I just checked the myspace page and you are indeed right- another Budget Rock- cool.

I'm kinda surprised how much I like most of Cheap Time's songs- I hear what you mean about his voice, but for some reason it just doesn't grate on me.

So, did Jay just blast through the tunes at mach speed without breathing between songs? Any violence? How was the crowd?

I hosted dinner for 12- sadly, I could not convince Scott to stick around another day, so no patio sipping for lunch.

Will domestic chores never cease?

Yes he tore through his set and his bass player looked like the Hulk only with a LOT more hair. They just sounded great live.

I saw no violence although a cocktail waitress tried to steal $15from me but Brad spotted it. Thanks, Brad.
